Introducing Arts and Islam
"These seminars have provided a welcome platform for artists and individuals working within the arts to come together to break down misconceptions and bridge understanding of the Islamic faith and artistic practice. I hope there is a great appetite to explore this in America, as associations between the arts and faiths are an important means of promoting constructive dialogue between communities."
David Lammy MP, former Culture Minister, British Government

Arts and Islam is an Arts Council England initiative exploring the relationship between creative arts practice and the Islamic faith. The programme explores Muslim identity, the Islamic rulings in relation to the arts and explores creative arts practice from the perspective of contemporary Muslim artists.
The Arts and Islam initiative has been developed in partnership with a range of Muslim artists and arts organisations including Ulfah Arts, Khayaal Theatre and AerosolArabic.
The programme has toured extensively across England and an abridged version of Arts and Islam will be touring Denmark in March and the United States in April 2007. Further information on these visits is available via the menu on the left hand side.

AssalaumuAlaikum,
Just wanted to let you know, the Mural still stands, untouched - was just out there to see the family and the Mural remains respected. ALSO - Mantia Magassa (the mother who lost 5) gave birth to a baby boy and her co-wife, Ayehsa Magassa (the mother in the wheelchair) gave birth to twins (boy & girl) the very next day. Unfortunately, the girl baby died a week later.
